There is a Richard T Sly, born about 1823, in Warren County, Virginia. He is in Rockingham County in 1880. His wife, Martha J Bradley, died in 1878, in Rockingham County. They do not have a daughter, in the 1870 Warren County census. Richard must have taken Mary Riley in as his “daughter” in the 1880 census. Obviously, there was a connection between Richard Sly and Josephine Riley, Mary’s mother, as they all lived in Warren County, Virginia, in 1870.
